Description

The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to upholding the human rights of all people seeking asylum. Led by community members, the ASRC offers 30 holistic programs that protect asylum seekers from persecution and destitution, supports wellbeing and dignity, and empowers people to advance their own future.

Services provided

  • For asylum seekers:
    • legal services
    • food aid
    • material aid (for example, clothing, bedding and nappies)
    • health services
    • employment, training and skills development
  • Community speaker program
  • Detention rights advocacy
  • Schools program
  • Social enterprises including ASRC Catering, ARSC Cleaning and the Food Justice Truck

Eligibility

Available to all asylum seekers. The organisation defines an asylum seeker as a person: who had to leave their country because it is too dangerous for them to stay there; who is in danger in their country because they were seriously harmed or at risk of serious harm because of either their religion, race, nationality, political opinion, or social group; whose government cannot or will not protect them from that serious harm.

The ASRC provides a free service.
Calls to the 1800 number are free for Victorians.
Calls from mobile phones may be charged at a higher rate.
